Celts aim to defend title in final

Celts aim to defend title in final

By Ryan Gould, North Wales Crusaders Media Manager

Conwy Celts will aim to defend their title when they take on Flintshire Falcons in the North Wales Conference Grand Final at Colwyn Bay tonight (7.30pm).

The Celts were the first side to lift the trophy after beating the then favourites Prestatyn and Rhyl Panthers in last year’s final, while for the Falcons, who started up late in 2012, it will be their first final appearance.

But the Falcons’ head coach Mark Parry is quietly confident, despite knowing that his side’s the underdogs heading into the game.

“We see ourselves as the underdogs for this game”, he said. “We realise we’re behind the eight ball, but we’re using that as motivation to try and cause an upset.

“It’s only our second year of existence as a club, so to reach the final is a great positive for the players, staff, everyone involved with the club.

“It’s been a bit of a disruptive season in North Wales, but hopefully the final will be a success and help us to finish the season on a postitive note.”

And North Wales Development Officer Matt Pritchard is urging people to go along to the game, in what promises to be another exciting event for the sport in North Wales.

Pritchard said: “This is a fantastic achievement from both clubs and I urge everyone to go down and support the North Wales community game tomorrow evening at the flood lit Grand Final.

“I wish both teams the best of luck and, if you’re not doing anything tomorrow night, why not pop down and watch the action?”

There is no admission for this fixture, but Wales Rugby League are kindly asking for people to get involved with the raffle.

Stadium Address: Brookfield Drive, Rhos on Sea, Colwyn Bay, Clwyd, LL28 4SW.
