NCC Rd 2 Preview

Lions look to devour Sharks, Vultures and Warriors set for 3 points.
Jamaica’s premier rugby league competition, The National Club Championship (NCC), continues on Saturday June 8 with all teams in action. In week one, there were a few thrills (GC Foster over JDF 20-19), thrashings, Vauxhall over Liguanea 72-20 and expected results (Red Sharks over Spanish Town 44-4). As we anticipate the games this weekend, fans can expect more breath taking games and some whippings.
Game1. Spanish Town Vikings vs. Vauxhall Vultures (Ellerslie Pen Football field, 4pm)
National champions Vauxhall will have little to fear when they visit Spanish Vikings on Saturday. The champs possess too much fire power and experience in the likes of Omar Jones and Sandino Hastings to be troubled by the upstart Vikings. For the home team, play maker Shavon Cuff and winger Lemar Ellis must play the game of their lives to make the game competitive, however, the Vikings are simply too small to challenge the Vultures for 80 minutes..although..if they get off to a quick start, it is possible..though unlikely the champs might choke..but don’t hold your breath.
Player to watch-Vikings hooker Shavon Cuff, the lad is a live wire player, very deceptive and with a good pass, however, since he is selected in the rugby union national U19 team, he may be told to sit out.

Game 2.  Liguanea Dragons vs. JDF Warriors (Campion High School, 4pm)
Liguanea suffered a thrashing at the hands of Vauxhall last week and needs to step up big time to avoid another embarrassing score, this time at the hands of JDF. Young play makers Shannon Harris and Donovan Jackson must take a more confident approach in their ball distribution and also inspire the Dragons to be stronger in defence in order to compete with the soldiers. For JDF, they are off to a disappointing start after losing to GC Foster last week; expect them to rebound strongly through forwards Orien Smith and Shaneal Brown. They are unfortunate to lose Brian Martin, the biggest athlete to ever play in the NCC (6’8′ over 250 pounds) and with Edgar “Shrek” Herbine not the force he once was, Smith and Brown must work overtime to get the team in good attacking positions.  The Dragons competed well against the JDF last year and are keen to pull off the upset, but all indicators are the soldiers will be firing live rounds and not blanks. Sorry Dragons.
Game Breaker: Dragons woozy defence will cost them this one.
Game 3. Duhaney Park Red Sharks vs. GC Foster Lions (Duhaney Park Football Field, 4pm)
Look for hay-makers in this the game of the round with two equally matched teams going head to head. GC Foster will be high on confidence after disposing of the JDF last week.  If they are to repeat their giant killing performance, scrum half and two try hero of their game last week, Ryan “National” Grant, must produce another outstanding game and this time he will need plenty of help. Duhaney Park were none too impressive in their win against Spanish Town last week, their forwards mostly appeared soft and uninspiring except for Nathan “The Beast” Campbell. Only an improved performance will save them from losing at home…or a severe Beast attack.
