Lucky 13 for NSW Cup Sharks

Lucky 13 for NSW Cup Sharks

The NSW Cup Sharks were forced to fight every inch of the way in beating Mounties 10-0 in a tight tussle at Sharks Stadium.
The Sharks scored one try in each half in running their unbeaten run to 13 games, while managing to keep their opponents scoreless in a dogged defensive performance.
A different scoreline appeared on the cards when Daniel Moroko finished off a clever backline movement to touch down wide out in the opening 10 minutes of the match, however it would take another hour of game time before either team would be able to trouble the scoreboard operator.
With a frantic finish on the cards it was be a Sosaia Vave try from close range, converted by Nathan Stapleton, that would confirm the result and keep the Sharks undefeated and on top of the VB NSW Cup competition table.
Despite the low scoreline the match was an entertaining one, although it was a game punctuated by numerous penalties blown by referee Michael Laverty with the total count between the two teams approaching 30.
In a negative for the Sharks, they lost halfback Chad Townsend early on in the match with what appeared to be a thumb injury. Townsend didn't return to action and the injury will be assessed in the coming days.
For the Sharks Bryce Gibbs continued his return from a long-term injury of his own with a wholehearted performance, however it was the likes of Stewart Mills, Matt Wright, Moroko and Storm winger Young Tonumaipea who were amongst the standouts in the win.
Pat Politoni, normally a hooker but thrown into the halfback role when Townsend was forced from the field, also played strongly for the Sharks.
The Sharks now move to 28 competition points and will put their perfect record on the line once again next week when they host Wentworthville at Sharks Stadium on Saturday.
The game will be a part of a three game roster, with the NSW Cup kicking off at 3.00pm, the NYC Sharks v Parramatta at 5.15pm and the NRL match at 7.30pm.
